Talk less, ask more questions

How often do we get distracted when someone is talking to us ?? Or we already preparing ourselves to respond and haven’t actually listen to the person. I struggle with this all to often. Especially when I think I’m an “expert” on the topic. But when I let go of raising my opinions, I end up getting a better understanding of a situation I never considered before.
The best way I find of getting my opinion across is to first ask questions. And half the time, my opinion actually never mattered. Why GOOD communication is so important. For some people something will be common sense to them, but not to the next person.
Once upon a time, I was depended on my mom doing my laundry. My mom never wanted me to use her washing machine. All she expected from me was to hang the laundry on the washing line, which I was happy to do. After then I was dating someone and just went and I added his clothes to my laundry. One day my mom called me aside, and asked me “do you think it’s right that I should do your bf laundry and you haven’t bother asking if it’s okay?” At the time, I didn’t see how I was taking advantage of the situation and my mother for that matter. It should be “common sense” to anyone. I didn’t know any better, but if it wasn’t for my mom to raise her dissatisfaction, things could have escalated to unnecessary drama. Why I think we talk way too much, and ask too little questions.
