I’ve recently read a meme about lockdown how in level 5 everyone was baking banana bread and now level 3 everyone is hiking 😅 I’m not embarrassed to admit that I fall under this cliche. I’m far from an expert hiker. Literally only 3 hikes that ever stood out to me in my entire life.
My first hike was few years ago, walking up a volcano in Indonesia. I had no idea what I got myself into. Thinking back now with every hike I never seem to know what I got myself into, only until when it was too late! If it was not for the encouragement from others, I would never have done it. The hike up the volcano was the least on my to-do-list which ended up being my top least regrets. Not even half way up, I was ready to give up. But the tour guide would not have any of it. He then assigned a young boy to walk with me. This boy was doing the hike practically every morning before school, just so that at the end he could sell cool drinks to tourists to make some extra cash. I swear if it wasn’t for this little boy, I would not have made it to the top. My hike just got easier, even though the trail got harder. I felt like I owed him my life haha
Everyone can agree that there are many life lessons that can be taken from hiking. If you’re going to complain all the way through, you probably not going to make it to your destination or not appreciate it as much once you do get there. If you take a wrong turn, best to ask for directions. Hiking teaches you to slow down and take breaks in between. Listening to your body and accept when things do not go your way as planned.
I strongly believe life is about the journey and not the destination. Yes, we should have goals and aim to achieve them, but what is the point if you or yourself get hurt in the process of achieving them.
